O n Tuesday, October 9, 2018, First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanagh welcomed FDNY members, family, and friends to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at FDNY Headquarters in Brooklyn.
“Helping others, making a difference, and being part of a large brotherhood and sisterhood, that’s why our members love being part of the FDNY,” said First Deputy Commissioner Kavanagh. “In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, we underscore our shared commitment to protect our city that crosses every background and every heritage in our Department.”
In addition to recognizing the contributions of Hispanics, the Department honored three individuals for their work within the Department and to the City. Honorees included Firefighter Pedro Bisono, EMT Israel “Izzy” Miranda, Yrmina Acevedo, and Johnny Mambo. Acevedo is also a FDNY Exploring Program Post Advisor. Read more here.
