“Our mission is too great for anyone to do it alone – and all of you in your new leadership roles will be so important to responding and protecting this city,” added Chief of Department John Sudnik.
At the ceremony, five Deputy Chiefs were promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief, 16 Captains were promoted to Battalion Chief, 25 Lieutenants were promoted to Captain and 31 Firefighters were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
“I joined this Department because I was looking for a challenge. This job gives me the opportunity to better myself and grow as a person. Every day is different so you always have to be ready. I want to inspire others to join and show them that with hard work anyone can do this,” said Lieutenant Darius Dorsett, one of the promotees at the ceremony. Dorsett is also a longtime recruiter in our Office of Recruitment and Retention and he is a former FDNY Calendar of Heroes model.
The newly promoted members will be assigned to various units throughout the city. View more photos from the ceremony here. Read more about our promotional opportunities in fire suppression here.
