December 18, 2024For today’s #FlashbackFriday, we’re looking back at last week’s “Meet the Leaders Day” at Captain Vernon A. Richard High School for Fire and Life Safety.
Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker, Chief of Department John Esposito, Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods, Chief of EMS Operations Michael Fields, and Assistant Deputy Commissioner of External Partnerships James Harding shared their personal journeys into the FDNY. They also offered valuable career insights and life advice to the students.
“It gives me great hope to hear the questions and to interact with the students that the Fire Department and the future of the FDNY is in really good hands,” said Fire Commissioner Tucker.
Students gave FDNY officials a tour of the high school, dropping into the Firefighter 101 Class (9th grade), the Emergency Management Class (10th grade), and the EMS 101 Class (11th grade).
High school senior Taramiah Sarker has his sights set on becoming an FDNY firefighter and has been working steadily to achieve his goal. “It was a great opportunity and a real privilege to meet the leaders of the FDNY and show them what the school offers and the programs that we have,” he said. “I strive to walk in their footsteps one day.”
