Meet FFCMP Coordinator Jéneen Gilliam
June 18, 2018Learn More About the Firefighter Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
June 25, 2018M eet David Lin, our Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) Training and Fitness Awareness Program (FAP) Coordinator. As a senior at SUNY Buffalo in 2005, he recalled that he always wanted to work in a place where he could grow as a person and professional. After searching for potential careers, the Brooklyn native said he knew immediately that the FDNY was that special place.
“Working for the FDNY is more than just a career, because it’s more like being with family members daily. The acronym FDNY could also really stand for Family, Dedication, Noble and Youthful,” he said. “There’s a sense of family and bonding amongst colleagues during assignments, as well as off-duty. This is what truly separates our Department from others.”
Now, as he’s serving in his 12th year in the Department, he’s giving back by helping aspiring members of New York’s Bravest become a step closer to achieving their dreams. Join FDNY recently caught up with him at “The Rock” just before another FAP session started for a chat and he had a special message for all Exam #7001 Firefighter Candidates.
Join FDNY: The Exam #7001 test scores are now public and we have thousands of Firefighter Candidates who are learning more about the hiring process. Why should candidates participate in our free training programs?
David Lin: There’s without a doubt that our CPAT Training and Fitness Awareness programs will help them get ready for the job. We want them to succeed at this career and we’re here to help them become FDNY Firefighters. Also, in order to be the best, you have to train with the best and that’s what these two free programs offer, an opportunity to train with our Fitness Unit here at the Academy. Our programs include intense workout sessions, but they are completely worth it. In addition to working out on their own, I encourage all Firefighter Candidates to join CPAT Training and FAP when the time arrives in the hiring process and take advantage of our free services.
JF: We always see you working here or at the Recruitment Office in Brooklyn, but what’s your spare time looking like these days?
DL: You can usually find me making a mean smoked prime rib with all of the trimmings when I’m at home spending time with my wife and kids. I also like to go jogging, biking and zip-lining sometimes. I’m also the President of the FDNY Phoenix Society and that has been a rewarding experience. It’s a great organization and I’m looking forward to seeing it flourish.
Exam #7001 Candidates: Your physical exam is the next step if your list number gets called and we have great resources available to help you get ready for the test. When it’s your turn to join our CPAT Training Program, you will be contacted via phone, mail and e-mail and that’s when you can register. Until then, please review our resources to get started.
