December 18, 2017FDNY EMS is ‘Always in Service’
January 8, 2018Engine 311 Firefighter William West called his heroic career life-changing because it allows him to help the city in many unique ways. As part of his efforts to educate aspiring FDNY members about his job, he also serves as the Department’s African-American Outreach Coordinator.
“I love being a FDNY Firefighter because when we answer the call, the public knows that we’re there to help them and their family and that’s very important to me,” he said. “My career is also special because I’m able to give back to the community each day and my community matters to me. When I’m recruiting at events and speaking to residents throughout the city, it’s really a great experience because I get to discuss in detail why this is such a rewarding career and I think that helps to inspire them to join this great Department.”
