“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'” At FDNY, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. continues to inspire

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the FDNY participates in a Day of Service, focusing on community outreach, fire education, and the free installation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for residents, particularly those in high-risk areas.

“Martin Luther King Jr. once said, ‘What are you doing for others?’ Today, the FDNY answers that call,” Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore said. “We want to set New Yorkers up for success. We are their fire department, and our job is to protect their property and their lives.”

This annual initiative aligns with Dr. King’s legacy of service, with Department members actively participating to help keep New Yorkers safe.
