FDNY is the largest Fire Department in the United States. It is often recognized as the world’s busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. Joining us is an enormous responsibility, as well as the opportunity of a lifetime.
As first responders to fires, public safety and medical emergencies, disasters, and terrorist acts, FDNY protects the lives and property of New York City residents and visitors. The Department advances public safety through its fire prevention, investigation, and education programs. The timely delivery of these services enables FDNY to make significant contributions to the safety of New York City and homeland security efforts.
Firefighters are sworn to serve and protect life and property by responding to emergency situations. The community counts on us to extinguish fires, conduct rescues, eliminate biological and chemical threats, promote fire safety and enforce fire safety standards. In total, FDNY responded to 1.7 million emergencies in 2016.
FDNY Firefighters are an inspiration to others.
