Meet Emergency Medical Technician Natalie Apollon who serves in Brooklyn.
Apollon joined the FDNY in June 2017 and currently works as a Chief’s Aide to Deputy Assistant Chief for City South Michael Fields.
“I worked various jobs growing up and when I worked in Burger King, I met two FDNY EMTs and I inquired about their job. I always had a desire to help people and I had an interest in healthcare,” she recalled.
Since then, Apollon earned both her New York State EMT certification and Associate’s degree and is now proudly working as a first responder in the largest municipal fire department in the country.
“Becoming an EMT was a great feeling, but working for the Department is unlike any other work environment I have experienced,” she explained. “I have colleagues that I now consider my family. We have experienced emotional jobs that we will always remember such as delivering a baby or saving someone’s life. This career bonds us in a way that is unexplainable. I love this job because I appreciate being able to help my community. It brings me joy knowing that I may have changed someone’s life or made their day a bit better.”
