July 28, 2023FFCMP Hosts Ninth Annual Mentor-Mentee Day in the Park
August 10, 2023“Working for FDNY EMS is one of the most challenging, yet rewarding careers there is. No matter how difficult a particular job or day can be, knowing that I always have a partner working alongside me to provide the best care possible to our patients keeps me motivated every day I come into work,” said Station 58 EMT Brendan Burns.
Burns is a three-year veteran of the Department and calls Rockaway Beach home. Most recently, Burns helped to rescue two distressed swimmers in Rockaway on July 29.
“We were flagged down by two bystanders who let us know that two people were drowning,” Burns recalled. “With the help of my partner and two off-duty lifeguards, we were able to notify dispatch to send additional units while I swam out with a rescue torpedo and brought the two victims back to shore. It was a great team effort overall.”
“I recommend to everyone who is interested in a career here to make use of the many resources the FDNY provides to you,” Burns added. “I started off as an EMS Trainee and have made it a goal of mine to stay focused and take every training possible in order to expand my skill-set. The opportunities are here and they are waiting for you to take advantage of them to being your own path to success.”
