Rescue 4 Firefighter Fulfills Childhood Dream

Firefighter Giovanni Martinez serves at Rescue Company 4 in Queens, which is one of only five rescue companies in our Department. As a Firefighter in the largest municipal fire department in the country, he noted that he has also fulfilled his childhood dream.

“As a child growing up in Brooklyn, I always visited Ladder 105 right on the corner of Dean Street and I always admired the Firefighters there. They were brave and they interacted with me and became my role models. Even as a kid, I always knew that I wanted to help people and be a part of our city in this way,” he explained. “Working for this great city as a Firefighter is definitely one of the greatest accomplishments in my life. To all of the people who are looking to join this Department, my advice is get ready to work hard to get this job and remember that the hard work and learning continues after you get on the job as well.”
