June 18, 2026The latest class of FDNY probationary firefighters to join the FDNY is being assigned to firehouses throughout New York City after taking part in a graduation ceremony on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn.
“This graduating class of probationary firefighters is about more than a badge. It’s about carrying forward the legacy of the FDNY. These probationary firefighters carry with them a profound responsibility to honor those who came before them, protect one another, and ensure the promise to never forget lives on through their service,” FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore said.
The firefighters successfully completed an 18-week training program at the FDNY Fire Academy. The probies trained in all aspects of firefighting, including fire suppression and medical response, hazardous materials, collapse and confined space rescues, auto extrication, building inspections and procedures for engine and ladder operations.
“Today marks an important milestone. You have completed months of demanding training, you have been tested physically and mentally, and you have learned the foundations of this job,” Chief of Department John Esposito said. “You have, what I consider, the greatest job in the world. You are now New York City firefighters.”
The Department’s Fire Academy, also known as “The Rock,” is a state-of-the-art training facility located on Manhattan’s Randall’s Island. It was dedicated in 1975 and officially opened in 1976. It serves as the primary training hub for FDNY fire operations.
