FDNY Youth Visit 9/11 Memorial and Participate in a Spirit Run
August 16, 2022Promotion Alert: Apply Today to Become a Paramedic
August 23, 2022“I love working for the FDNY, especially in the Recruitment unit, as I get to interact with candidates and prospective candidates. I, along with my colleagues, provide guidance and resource materials for candidates as they go through each step of the process,” said newly promoted Event Coordinator Petrena Freemantle.
Freemantle, who was born in Jamaica and lives in The Bronx, has moved up the ranks since joining the FDNY in 2016. She began at the Recruitment Phone Bank in Long Island City as a Consultant, became a Community Associate-Recruitment Customer Service Representative in 2019, and most recently was promoted to Community Coordinator-Event Coordinator within the Office of Recruitment and Retention.
“We are essentially the first line of communication with the public and it brings me immense joy watching candidates move from completing Expression of Interest Forms to filing and taking the exam to going through the physical exam and entering the Fire or EMS Academy,” she explained.
“I am excited about this new venture and look forward to using my knowledge and experience to continue to increase diversity within the Department, by developing and maintaining working relationships with the community in order to promote and organize Recruitment events,” Freemantle added. “As a civilian, working for the FDNY is a very fulfilling job. You can see the ‘fruits of your labor’ blossom right before your eyes. I have also been blessed to work with uniformed members, both EMTs and Firefighters during various recruitment events, and they are the most passionate individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. They take their jobs very seriously and they take pride in the work they do. If you want to be a part of an organization that serves from the heart, the FDNY is the place to be.”
