Former Proby of the Month Spotlight: Firefighter Franklin Richardson III

On this Flashback Friday, the spotlight is on former Proby of the Month Engine15 Firefighter Franklin Richardson III. Since being featured on Join FDNY in 2014, he has become a chauffeur and a Firefighter Candidate Mentorship Program Mentor.

“I started off in the Mentorship Program as a Junior Mentor and I visited Proby classes and told them about how the program helped me in my career. After a few years, I became a Mentor, and I’ve had nine mentees during the course of two years. All of my mentees have graduated from the Academy and I’m happy to have helped them become Firefighters,” he said.

When he’s not protecting life and property in the city, Richardson can now also be seen serving as a chef at many FDNY community events including our Summer Block Parties.

Firefighter Franklin Richardson III now also dedicates time to cook delicious food for community members at our events throughout the city.

“I like to interact with the community and help the residents of the neighborhoods we serve learn more about the FDNY. Growing up, I would always see the trucks go by, but not necessarily know what the job entailed and this job is so much more than putting water on a fire,” he added. “For the men and women who anticipate becoming a Firefighter, just know it’s a great career. The people you work with become family and the difference you will make in a person’s life will stay with you forever.”
