FDNY High School Class of 2021 Bids Farewell
June 25, 2021Supervising Inspector Martinez Loves His Family-Oriented Career
July 20, 2021On this Flashback Friday, we’re catching up with former Proby of the Month Engine 231 Firefighter Tristen Echols, who is the second FDNY Captain Vernon A. Richard High School for Fire and Life Safety alum to join our fire ranks. Since being featured on Join FDNY in 2014, he has become a chauffeur and a husband.
“I have been at Engine 231 since the beginning of my career and this job is everything I expected it to be and more,” he said. “The members I work with are great and I love the neighborhood I work in. I used to live in this neighborhood, and it seems as though everything has come full circle for me.”
And if his face looks familiar, you aren’t mistaken. In 2018, you saw him in one of our Recruitment videos.
“There are so many opportunities that the Department offers and my advice to everybody who is training to get this job is to stay focused on getting to know all that you can about this job. The resources to help you are free and they are online, so make sure you use them,” he added. “I wanted to become a Firefighter to help people and make my family proud. Everyone has their own reason why they want to join, but once you get here, you will see that all of the time and energy you put into this was worth it.”
