June 17, 2022“Being part of the FDNY and working on one of the largest fleets of emergency vehicles in the country is a thrill for me. The FDNY is a prestigious agency and I’m happy to provide my services to this Department to the best of my abilities,” said Auto Mechanic Ronald Alveari, who has been serving in our Fleet Services Division in Long Island City for the past eight years.
Alveari, who grew up in Queens and is Ecuadorian and Italian, got his start at Automotive High School in Greenpoint.
“I interned with the NYPD Fleet Division while I was a senior in high school. It was then that I was introduced to the job openings these city agencies provide for people with my skill set. After my nine-month internship with the NYPD, I applied to work for the FDNY,” Alveari recalled.
On any given day, you can find him working specifically with the vehicles that are driven by FDNY Chiefs and he noted he is proud to use his talents to help the Department maintain its fleet.
“The auto mechanic industry can be very challenging at times, but working here is the best decision I’ve made. The job security and state-of-the-art equipment provides a positive work environment here where people help each other and are not afraid to ask questions,” he added. “The best advice I can give to anyone interested in joining as an Auto Mechanic is to just do it. It is a privilege to work for the Fire Department and to know our hard work here helps our first responders do their jobs.”
The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services application window for this career is scheduled to close on June 28. Apply today here.
